CNC Programmer (Mazak)

Cummins Darlington, North East
£44,000 – £50,000Shift: Days Posted 2 days ago

About the role

Cummins is a global manufacturer of industrial diesel and natural-gas engines, and its Darlington plant is one of the company's primary UK engineering sites. The facility produces high-horsepower engines that power heavy trucks, construction equipment, marine vessels, power-generation sets and rail traction units across the UK, Europe and beyond. The machining team operates a fleet of Mazak Integrex multi-tasking centres — 5-axis turn-mill machines that complete complex engine components in a single setup. This role is programming-focused: writing, proving and optimising Mazatrol and ISO programs for components like cylinder heads, engine blocks and crankshafts, working closely with the shop-floor operators who run the parts. Engineering culture at Cummins is strong and progression paths are well-defined. Senior programmers typically move into NPI engineering, methods leadership or process technology over a career. Programmers work directly with toolroom, inspection and methods to optimise both cycle time and tooling spend across the engine families produced on site. Standard package: defined-contribution pension matched up to 7%, annual bonus tied to plant performance, life assurance, employee share purchase plan, and a strong CPD budget for advanced manufacturing courses and conferences.
