Mechanical Fitter — Wind

Siemens Gamesa Newcastle, North East
£39,000 – £44,000Shift: Days Posted 1 week ago

About the role

Siemens Gamesa is one of the major manufacturers and service providers in the wind-energy sector, supporting offshore projects where mechanical reliability has to survive harsh marine conditions. Final assembly work on nacelle modules is heavy, precise and documentation-led because access after installation is difficult and expensive. This Mechanical Fitter role supports final assembly of offshore-wind nacelle equipment destined for North Sea projects. You'll install mechanical systems, torque critical fasteners, align rotating components and complete proof-test documentation before units move toward shipment. The work suits a time-served fitter from heavy industry, power generation, rail, marine or large rotating equipment. It combines hands-on mechanical assembly with the discipline needed for renewable-energy assets that must run for years with planned service intervals.

Responsibilities

  • Fit mechanical assemblies, brackets, guards, pipework and drivetrain-adjacent components to specification
  • Complete critical bolting, torque marking and inspection records against controlled procedures
  • Use lifting equipment, alignment tools and calibrated hand tools around large nacelle modules
  • Support proof testing, pre-shipment checks and defect close-out before final sign-off
  • Work with electrical, quality and commissioning teams during integrated assembly stages
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, FOD control and safety around suspended loads

Requirements

  • Time-served mechanical fitter
  • Heavy industrial experience preferred
  • Confident reading mechanical drawings, torque specs and controlled assembly instructions
  • Experience with large rotating equipment, power generation, marine, rail or heavy machinery useful
  • Comfortable using calibrated tools and documenting critical assembly checks
