About the role

JCB's Rocester headquarters is the historic centre of one of Britain's best-known construction-equipment manufacturers. The site supports fabrication and assembly for heavy machines used in construction, agriculture and materials handling, where weld quality, repeatability and structural integrity are central to the finished product. This MIG Welder role focuses on heavy-plate boom, chassis and structural assemblies for JCB equipment. You'll work from weld symbols, jigs and isometric drawings, producing repeatable welds on parts that later move through paint, assembly and final inspection. The work is physical and production-led, but it is not casual fabrication. Strong welders here understand fit-up, distortion control, sequence discipline and the importance of keeping weld appearance and penetration consistent across batch work.

Responsibilities

  • MIG weld heavy-plate boom, chassis and bracket assemblies to approved production procedures
  • Read weld symbols, isometric drawings and fixture instructions before starting each build
  • Set machines, prepare joints and control weld sequence to reduce distortion on heavy structures
  • Use jigs, rotators and lifting equipment safely around large fabricated parts
  • Carry out visual self-inspection before parts move to formal QC or paint
  • Work with team leaders and quality inspectors to resolve weld defects or fit-up issues

Requirements

  • MIG coded on plate or able to pass a production weld test
  • Comfortable with heavy structures
  • Experience welding mild steel plate in a production or heavy-fabrication environment
  • Able to read weld symbols and fabrication drawings
  • Good awareness of heat input, distortion control and safe lifting around large parts
