Production Team Leader (Nights)
About the role
Greencore is one of the UK's largest convenience-food manufacturers, supplying chilled prepared meals, sandwiches, salads, soups and other short-shelf-life products into the major grocery retailers. The Warrington site is part of that high-volume chilled network, where production teams balance speed, hygiene, allergen discipline and retailer service levels every night. This night-shift team leader role sits on a chilled-ready-meals line with around 22 operatives across prep, assembly, packing and end-of-line checks. You'll own the shift rhythm: labour allocation, start-up readiness, line standards, changeovers, quality paperwork and the handover into the day team. The role suits someone who is comfortable being visible on the line. Greencore's production management teams are expected to keep product moving while maintaining food safety and specification discipline, so the work is equal parts people leadership, factory organisation and calm decision-making when labour, materials or equipment fall out of plan. Progression is realistic for strong team leaders: the next steps are usually zone manager, shift manager or continuous-improvement roles, especially for people who can show measurable gains in OEE, waste, giveaway and absence control.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily night-shift briefings, labour allocation and end-of-shift handover
- Keep the chilled-ready-meals line running to plan across prep, assembly, packing and dispatch windows
- Own OEE, waste, giveaway, labour-efficiency and short-interval-control reporting for the line
- Ensure work instructions, allergen controls, CCP checks and hygiene standards are followed throughout the shift
- Coordinate changeovers, clean-downs and CIP windows with hygiene, engineering and technical teams
- Coach line leaders and operatives on performance, attendance, safety and quality behaviours
- Escalate material, engineering or quality issues early enough to protect customer service levels
Requirements
- 2+ years team leader experience in BRC food manufacturing
- IOSH Managing Safely (or willing to complete)
- Strong people manager with high-pace mindset
- Confident with OEE, waste, labour and basic production KPI reporting
- Comfortable working permanent nights in a chilled, short-shelf-life environment
- Good understanding of hygiene, allergen control and retailer audit expectations
