Tooling Engineer

About the role

Bentley Motors' Crewe site is the company's headquarters and main manufacturing home, combining high-end automotive production with a large amount of skilled hand finishing. Tooling engineering at Crewe sits close to body-in-white, trim, assembly and launch activity, where fixture quality has a direct effect on build accuracy and repeatability. This Tooling Engineer role owns jig, fixture and production-tooling design for body-shop and assembly applications. You'll work from manufacturing requirements, CAD data and process feedback to design robust tools, support supplier manufacture and buy off tooling before it enters production. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys the bridge between design office and factory floor. You will spend time in CATIA, but the job only works if you can also stand next to operators, understand fit issues and translate practical feedback into tooling improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design jigs, fixtures, gauges and production tooling in CATIA V5 for body-shop and assembly processes
• Translate product CAD and manufacturing requirements into practical tooling concepts
• Liaise with toolmakers, suppliers and internal manufacturing engineers through design, build and try-out
• Support tool buy-off at supplier sites and on the Crewe shop floor
• Resolve fixture-related build issues during launch, process change or quality improvement activity
• Maintain tooling documentation, risk assessments and change-control records

Requirements

• Degree in mechanical / manufacturing
• 5+ years automotive tooling background
• Strong CATIA V5 capability for fixture, jig or gauge design
• Experience with BIW, trim, final assembly or low-volume premium automotive production
• Confident working with suppliers, toolmakers and production teams during try-out
