Electronics Assembler

About the role

Leonardo's Edinburgh operation is a major UK defence-electronics site, supporting radar, sensors and electronic warfare systems used across air, land and naval platforms. Production work here is small-batch, high-value and documentation-led, with IPC workmanship standards and security controls built into everyday routines. This Electronics Assembler role supports PCB and cable-harness build on radar sub-assemblies. You'll work across hand soldering, rework, inspection and harness termination, producing assemblies that move into test and integration for complex defence systems. The role suits someone with patient hands and a quality-first mindset. It is not a high-speed consumer-electronics line; each assembly has traceability, controlled materials and formal inspection steps before it can move forward.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PCB hand-soldering, component fit and rework to IPC-A-610 Class 3 standards
• Build, terminate and label cable harnesses to controlled drawings and wiring schedules
• Operate reflow, inspection and basic bench equipment according to local procedures
• Self-inspect work under magnification and flag defects before formal QC inspection
• Maintain batch records, material traceability and non-conformance documentation
• Work with test technicians and manufacturing engineers on rework feedback from failed assemblies
• Follow ESD, FOD and security-control procedures throughout the build area

Requirements

• IPC-A-610 trained
• Eligible for SC clearance
• Strong attention to detail
• Previous PCB, cable harness or electromechanical assembly experience
• Comfortable working under magnification with fine-pitch components
• Good written discipline for controlled production records
