PCB Test Technician
About the role
Thales' Crawley site supports avionics, aerospace electronics and mission-critical systems for civil and defence customers. PCB test work here sits between production and systems integration, proving that assemblies perform correctly before they move into higher-level equipment builds. This PCB Test Technician role covers functional, environmental and fault-finding work on avionics electronics. You'll use custom rigs, oscilloscopes, multimeters and controlled test procedures to identify failures, document results and return clear feedback to rework or manufacturing engineering teams. The role suits a technician who enjoys methodical diagnostics. You do not need to be a design engineer, but you do need the patience to follow test procedures exactly and the curiosity to chase intermittent faults without guessing.
Responsibilities
- Run functional bench tests on avionics PCB assemblies using custom rigs and approved procedures
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and environmental-test equipment to isolate failures
- Document failures, pass results and rework instructions clearly for production and quality teams
- Maintain calibration status and basic upkeep of test equipment assigned to the cell
- Support re-test after rework and confirm corrective actions have resolved the original fault
- Escalate recurring failure modes to manufacturing engineering with evidence from test data
Requirements
- HNC Electronics or equivalent
- IPC-A-610 desirable
- SC-clearable
- Able to read circuit diagrams, wiring schedules and controlled test instructions
- Practical experience with bench instruments and fault-finding on electronic assemblies
- Careful documentation habits in a regulated aerospace or defence environment
